[Satellite TODAY 05-06-10] MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) has been selected to provide VSAT services for Singapore-based maritime enterprise Goodwood Ship Management, MTN announced May 5.
The MTN VSAT will be used for all of Goodwood’s ship operations and remote management communications. The contract calls for a guaranteed minimum of continuously available bandwidth of 64 kilobits per second (kbps) with maximum bandwidth of 128 kbps when needed.
MTN initially will install C-band antennas and below-deck equipment on three of Goodwood’s managed oil vessels and one of its capesize bulkers. The vessels are being fitted with four separate phone lines for crew calling as well as computer stations for e-mail and Internet access at a flat rate.
“We chose MTN because of their global C-band coverage and reliable network backed by responsive worldwide service. MTN’s flat-rate, continuously available Internet connection provides the most cost-effective solution for our business and will achieve significant cost savings compared with pay-as-you-go satellite services,” Goodwood Managing Director Ashok Sabnis said in a statement.
