[Satellite TODAY 09-01-09] Danish shipping company M. H. Simonsen has chosen KVH Industry’s TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT Broadband service as its primary communications solution on six of its ice class oil and chemical tankers, KVH announced Aug. 31.
Simonsen said it chose KVH in efforts to reduce service costs with fixed service rates while increasing its bandwidth to provide broadband data connections, Voice Over IP and Ku-band network services to crewmembers.
“We studied all of the satellite communications options available to this market, and KVH was the only vendor able to offer a fixed monthly airtime rate, which was our main reason for choosing mini-VSAT Broadband," Ulrik Madsen, Simonsen’s marine superintendent, said in a statement.
Financial details of the order were not disclosed.
