[Satellite TODAY 08-13-09] ViaSat is supplying its LinkStarS2 Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) and SurfBeam satellite networking system hubs to Linkserve, an Internet service provider in West Africa, ViaSat announced Aug. 12.
The new DVB-S2 standard hub will operate on the Intelsat IS905 satellite providing C-band coverage over Africa, augmenting Ku-band services already provided through its LinkStar hub in Lagos using SES’ Astra 2B satellite.
Services to be offered across all three platforms in Africa include: Internet browsing, voice over IP (VoIP), IPTV applications, and streaming MPEG-4 video. The system also features Virtual Network Operator provisioning (VNO), which aims to enable larger service providers to manage and monitor multiple satellite networks through a single hub.
