[Satellite Today 03-25-09] Hyundai Heavy Industries’ construction equipment division selected Orbcomm’s satellite network to provide global communications for Hi-Mate, a telematics application for heavy equipment, Orbcomm announced March 23.
Hyundai’s multi-year agreement with Orbcomm’s country licensee and reseller, Korea Orbcomm, will include rollouts of the Hi-Mate services throughout the world. Initial deployments have begun in North America and will be expanded to include additional regions. The Hi-Mate system uses satellite communication hardware technology developed by manufacturer Quake Global.
“The decision by [Hyundai] to include a telematics solution using Orbcomm was the result of extensive testing conducted over several years,” Gene Song, CEO of Korea Orbcomm, said in a statement.
