Orange To Build Customized VSAT System for French Marine Company

[Satellite Today 03-12-09] Bourbon, a French marine services group, has chosen Orange Business Services for the modernization of the communications system for its fleet of 150 vessels, Orange announced March 11.
    Under the terms of the contract, Orange Business Services is responsible for integrating and operating a VSAT-type satellite communication system specially developed for marine communications. The system will connect the vessels to the Bourbon network via a virtual private IP network.
    Bourbon said the goal of the projects is to implement new communication services and new business applications for its entire fleet and that the new solution’s deployment of 45 vessels and four ground bases already has helped cut communication costs for Bourbon by a factor of five.
