Hyundai Buys Satellite Modems from Quake Global, Korea Orbcomm

[Satellite Today 01-06-09] Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. has selected Quake Global and Korea Orbcomm to supply satellite communicators and airtime for its new Hi-Mate global communications heavy equipment tracking and monitoring system, Quake Global announced Jan. 5.
    Quake Global said its modems would enable Hi-Mate to communicate globally through the Orbcomm machine-to-machine network.
    “Hyundai plans to expand its telematics system to many series of its heavy equipment and to the aftermarket as well,” Gene Song, CEO of Korea Orbcomm, said in a statement. “Initial deployment of Hi-Mate has already begun in North America and soon will be expanded to include additional regions.”
