[Satellite Today 10-14-08] ViaSat Inc. has been awarded a $1.5 million order to manufacture KG-200 and KG-201 In-Line Media Encryptors (IME) for the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), ViaSat announced Oct. 13.
The NSA-certified units will secure data up to the top secret level, transparently encrypting and decrypting data written to and read from computer storage media. The KG-200 is designed for desktop PCs and the KG-201 is designed for laptop PCs and other mobile computing platforms.
“Media encryptors are a vital new area for us,” said Jerry Goodwin, vice president of ViaSat. “This was an important win for us since it was the first competition for manufacturing Type-1 IMEs.”
