Avanti Wins Scottish Broadband Deal

[Satellite Today – 6-27-08] Avanti Communications has won a key satellite broadband contract in Scotland, the company said June 26.
Avanti will provide broadband services to premises throughout Scotland, which have been identified as out of the reach of terrestrial alternatives. The contract, valued at worth 3.3 million British pounds ($6.3 million), will cover capital and project management costs to establish networks covering more than 3,500 homes and businesses.
“I am very proud again to be solving a digital divide problem which has significant social and economic ramifications for European families and businesses,” David Williams, Avanti’s CEO, said in a statement. “There is also no doubt that this contract win with the Scottish government further entrenches our European market lead in rural broadband.”
Avanti will subcontract installation and management services to its wholesale customer and partner RDS.
