Globalstar Makes Progress in Asia

[Satellite Today – 06-06-08] Globalstar completed the installation of a satellite gateway in Singapore and signed a deal with Singapore’s leading telco, Globalstar said June 4. Globalstar installed a simplex data appliqué at its new gateway ground station in Singapore which completes construction of the gateway that will provide Globalstar coverage to significant parts of Southeast Asia and the surrounding maritime region.
    Globalstar also signed a gateway operations agreement with Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel) to operate the gateway, which is located at its Seletar Satellite facility. Singtel is preparing to launch Globalstar satellite services later this summer and also plans to offer Globalstar’s entire suite of next-generation advanced satellite voice and data solutions following the launch of the Globalstar second-generation constellation, which is expected to begin in the second half of 2009.
