DirecTV Posts Increases In Revenue, Operating Profit

[Satellite Today – 5-7-08] DirecTV Group Inc. reported a 17 percent increase in revenues and a 17 percent increase in operating profit for the first quarter of 2008, the company announced May 7.
    DirecTV posted revenues of $4.6 billion for the quarter ending March 31, compared to $3.9 billion in the first quarter of 2007. Operating profit was up to $657 million, compared to $563 million in 2007. The company also added 275,000 net subscribers for the quarter, compared to 235,000 in 2007.
    "DirecTV’s first quarter results highlight the overall operational and financial strength of our company,” Chase Carey, president and CEO of the DirecTV, said in a statement. “Our strategy of offering the best television experience to higher quality customers continues to drive superior financial results.”
    The first quarter churn was just 1.4 percent, a 10-year low for the first three months of the year, Carey said.
