AsiaSat Sees Strong Profit Increase

By Staff Writer | March 13, 2008

[Satellite Today – 3-13-08] AsiaSat posted a double-digit increase in profits for 2007, the company announced March 12.
Profits for the year were 503 million Hong Kong dollars ($64.6 million), an increase of nearly 11 percent compared to 2006. The operator said it generated revenues of 939 million Hong Kong dollars ($120.6 million), an increase of 9 million Hong Kong dollars ($1.1 million) compared to 2006.
At the end of 2007, there had been a decrease of 14 percent in the number of transponders leased and sold, including the four BSS transponders leased to Skywave TV Co. Ltd. for its direct-to-home services. AsiaSat said the drop primarily resulted from the migration of its China video customers to two new satellites.
