Hughes To Provide Broadband Kiosks Throughout India

[Satellite Today – 2-6-08] Hughes India has signed a contract to supply 10,000 broadband satellite terminals to Comat Technologies in India, Hughes announced Feb. 4.
    The Hughes-Comat consortium won the right to roll out the kiosks in rural areas of the country through a competitive bidding process for the government of India’s Community Services Centers program. Hughes also will supply HughesNet satellite services and applications to the centers.
    "Having strong experience in delivering e-governance solutions and services in partnership with various states, Comat has established a unique blend of content and delivery that has allowed the concept of a community services center to be become a reality,” Comat President Sriram Raghavan said in a statement. “Together with Hughes, the company is now gearing up to deploy these [centers] throughout India’s rural regions."
    Financial details of the agreement were not released.
