[Satellite Today – 1-14-08] Orbcomm will be taking advantage of new regulatory approvals and begin offering low earth orbit satellite services in El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama, the company announced Jan. 11. Orbcomm has already received regulatory authorizations in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
“Latin America is a very important market for our [International Value-added Resellers] and OEMs,” said Orbcomm’s COO, Marc Eisenberg. “In most cases, these partners have already established sales and distribution channels in these markets and have been eagerly awaiting this announcement. In addition to our IVARs and OEMs, we expect to gain market share by expanding our reseller network with more Latin American VARs and IVARs. We are quite pleased that we are now able to offer our very high quality low-cost services in even more countries and expect additional new country regulatory approvals to be issued in the near future.”
