By Staff Writer | December 11, 2007

[12-11-07 – Satellite Today] Digital Angel Corp.’s McMurdo division has signed a long-term contract to provide the United Kingdom’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) with rescue systems, Digital Angel announced Dec. 11.
The RNLI has bought 300 Man Overboard (MOB) systems, a GPS location system that is mounted in the wheelhouse of a fishing boat and sends regular location information via the Iridium satellite system to the RNLI Operations Center at Poole, Dorset, England. The total cost for the systems is $450,000. RNLI has organized European Union financial support to offset the cost of the system to fishermen, who will pay approximately $630, or less than 20 percent of the total cost of the system.
Signature Industries will begin distributing the systems this month and will finish by March 2008.
