[10-31-07 – Satellite Today] Aruba Networks Inc. and iDirect Inc. have completed integration testing of a wireless local area network (WLAN)-to-satellite connection, Aruba announced Oct. 31.
The two companies have certified the interoperability of Aruba’s secure mobility solution with iDirect’s satellite platform, allowing satellite customers to provide a wide area network interface to Aruba’s adaptive wireless LANs. The solution is expected to be used with video surveillance, perimeter security monitoring, disaster recovery, distance learning, logistics management and storage depots.
"By adding Aruba’s secure Wi-Fi capability to our platform, we have greatly simplified the manner in which our satellite network is accessed and increased the types of devices that can leverage our wide area connection such as wireless bar code and RFID scanners, Wi-Fi enabled handsets, PDAs, and Wi-Fi enabled cameras and sensors," Karl Fuchs, director of engineering for iDirect Government Technologies, said in a statement.
