Egyptsat Turns To Newtec For Broadband System

[07/23/08 – Satellite Today] Egyptian satellite Internet provider Egyptsat, the signed a deal with Belgian Newtec for a Sat3Play satellite broadband system, Egyptsat announced Aug. 23.
 
The system will be used to provide interactive satellite-based broadband services such as fast Internet access, Voice over Internet Protocol and various other Internet Protocol-based services to home and professional users. The hub station will be installed at Egypsat’s telesat in Cairo, a facility equipped with Tier 1 fiber connectivity.

 “We believe that the Sat3Play systems from Newtec fulfil at best the market requirements,” Mohamed Elgahmry, Egyptsat’s CEO, said in a statement. “Despite the lack of terrestrial DSL service availability in many regions, the growing PC-user market can now be served by an affordable satellite based alternative.”
