[Via Satellite 11-29-2016] Thaicom has made a strategic move to boost its position in Africa, a key target market for the company. It has signed a contract with iSAT Africa to expand its C-band Multi Channel Per Carrier (MCPC) broadcast platform and service into Africa.

The service will facilitate distribution of TV channels on the Thaicom 6 satellite. The MCPC broadcast platform enables Thaicom to expand its broadcast services in Africa from Thaicom 5 to Thaicom 6 at the company’s 78.5 degrees East prime video neighborhood. The platform aims to be a cost-effective solution for African and international broadcasters looking to develop their content distribution across Sub-Saharan Africa. Teleport operator iSAT Africa will provide ground and uplink services for the MCPC broadcast platform from its facility in Nairobi, East Africa.

Thaicom’s MCPC media platform is based on Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite (DVB-S) modulation and MPEG-2 compression technology, and can be received with small antenna sizes in much of its coverage area thanks to the Thaicom 6 satellite’s high power C-band beam.
