SES, Gilat Forge Hybrid Broadband Solution for Asia

[Via Satellite 05-31-2016] SES and Gilat Satellite Networks are partnering to launch the SES Enterprise+ hybrid broadband in Asia. The solution uses SES 9 satellite capacity and Gilat’s SkyEdge 2-c Libra hybrid terminal to deliver broadband Internet connectivity to underserved areas and improve download speeds.

Customers will be able to integrate SES’ satellite network for download traffic with their existing terrestrial network for upload traffic. Gilat’s hybrid terminal uses the existing network for the return channel and allows the download by satellite.

According to the companies, the solution will offer download speeds of up to 20 Mbps and targets Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) that want to offload their congested traffic networks and offer higher data rates, as well as for Direct-to-Home (DTH) providers that want to venture into the triple play of Internet, television and telephony.
