[Via Satellite 12-07-2015] Advantech Wireless announced the company has recorded a substantial increase in bookings for its Gallium Nitride (GaN) based Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) in the first half of Fiscal-Year 2016.

Advantech Wireless was the first company to commercialize GaN SSPAs for satellite communications, and the company has invested in Research and Development (R&D) to increase efficiency and linearity in its second generation. According to Advantech, the company’s second generation of GaN based units has opened new opportunities in tactical troposcattering communications, and scientific research facilities, in addition to cost reductions for teleport operators in the broadcast industry.

“We rolled out GaN-based power amplifiers and block-up converters because our customers needed more efficient, longer life components,” said Advantech Wireless Vice President of Business Development Cristi Damian. “The market has responded even faster than we had planned, and we will continue to roll out this technology in commercial and military markets through our research and development pipeline.”
