[Satellite TODAY 08-14-13] ViaSat was recently awarded an order valued at $21.7 million for a multifunctional information distribution system – low volume terminals (MIDS-LVT) for the U.S. government, Australia, Oman, and Thailand. The orders resulted from a competitive procurement through the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) and were awarded under the MIDS Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract initially executed in March 2010. These MIDS-LVT airborne terminals are for U.S. government aircraft as well as more than 50 percent to FMS sales.

The “award recognizes our exceptional delivery and terminal maintenance performance,” said Jay Kaufman, general manager, ViaSat tactical data links. “The award also extends our high-quality terminals and support services to our growing family of international customers,” he said.

MIDS-LVT forms the backbone of the Link-16 network across the US DOD and the international coalition. Core terminal functions include not only Link-16 data, but also secure voice and TACAN capabilities on select terminals.
