NSR Research Report: Indian Satellite Markets

Format

PDF on CD-Rom

Description

Heralded as the third largest economy in the world, it is easy to see why India is an international investment destination. The first widespread distribution of television over satellite began the famous Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) in 1975-76. Thirty three years hence, India has a home-grown INSAT satellite system with over two hundred transponders, GEO and polar orbit launching capability, nearly five million DTH homes and almost a hundred thousand VSAT sites in an environment that continues to grow at over eight percent per annum.

However, not all is well when it comes to the satellite industry. Policies that were put into place more than a decade ago continue to govern the service providers and satellite operators in the region. Regulated transponder lease pricing and licensing requirements for operating any satellite equipment continue to keep global market forces at bay.

Written by an analyst within the Indian market, this report provides an Indian perspective on fixed, broadcast and mobile segments of the satellite industry. NSR's proven interview and forecasting methodology are combined with the nuances of the Indian satellite market to give the reader a comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The Indian Satellite Markets report focuses on the supply of domestic and international satellite capacity, demand from every major application and regulations that govern businesses in the region.

Extensive Market Forecasts
Forecasts for this report include satellite capacity, demand for that capacity from video broadcasting, VSAT applications and DTH. Each of these forecasts is presented keeping in mind frequency band, installed units and revenues. Current estimates for 2008 are collated from the interview process and/or secondary research and projections for the next five years are forecast. In addition emerging applications such as cellular backhaul, newsgathering and HITS are highlighted in the Indian context.
Primary Questions Addressed in this Report Include:
  • What are the key differentiators that set apart the satellite market in India from the rest of the world?
  • What are the issues facing provision of satellite capacity over India for satellite operators?
  • What is the demand from traditional applications like video broadcasting and VSAT services?
  • What is the demand from emerging applications like newsgathering, cellular backhaul and HITS?
  • What are the regulations in place for each service segment?
  • What implication do these regulations have on business models?
  • Why has the mobile satellite services (MSS) segment in India been left behind in comparison?
  • What are the projections for satellite capacity in terms of transponder equivalents over the next five years?
  • What are the projections for growth in installed VSATs, video channels and DTH subscribers over the next five years?
  • What are the projections for growth in revenues from leasing capacity and equipment sales over the next five years?
