[09-10-07 – Satellite Today] DataPath and Qualcomm have signed a joint marketing agreement to provide integrated satellite and cellular communications solutions for military and disaster recovery teams, the company announced Sept. 10.
The two companies collaborated to design the Integrated Tactical Cellular Communications Solution (ITCCS), which links SATCOM connectivity with a deployable cellular base station to establish a local network for up to 150 simultaneous cell phone users, typically within a five to 10-mile radius. ITCCS can enable secure, mobile and high-bandwidth communications anywhere, even in locations or situations with little or no existing communications infrastructure.
The integrated Satcom and cellular system overcomes the limited bandwidth and privacy of traditional push-to-talk (PTT) radios, the companies said. The solution supports voice, video and data to CDMA cell phones, PDAs and laptop computers.
