Norsat International has had its third straight quarter of profit and also reached the milestone of being debt free for the first time in almost 25 years, after eliminating short-term debt. These were two of the highlights of its latest results announced August 14. The company, a provider of intelligent satellite solutions, also saw a strong increase in revenues for the quarter ending June 30. It had revenues in the second quarter of $4.5 million, an increase of close to 20 percent compared to the same stage last year. Revenue for the first half of 2007 grew 33 percent to $8.9 million from $6.7 million for the first half of 2006.
The company is particularly strong in the military space. Earlier in August, it announced that it had now sold its portable satellite systems to seven of the world’s militaries. Collectively, these defense customers are currently deploying Norsat’s technology in at least 17 countries spanning all five continents.
The company is also looking to make inroads into other key international markets, such as China. The company announced recently that it had launched a Chinese language version of its LinkControl user interface software. The new version of the LinkControl software is available for use on all Norsat transportable satellite terminals.
