Launch Date Set for Turkey’s First Earth Observation Satellite

[Satellite TODAY 12-10-12] Gokturk-2 is Turkey’s second homemade earth observation satellite and its scheduled Dec. 19 launch from the Chinese Jiuquan Base was announced Dec 10.
The Gokturk-2 will launch at 6:13 p.m. Turkish local time. It will be the first National Earth Observation Satellite and was created by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and Turkish Aerospace Industries.
The Gokturk-2 satellite aims to be used for the image requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces and as other institutions that require satellite images for agriculture, transportation and urban development with 2.5 meters of resolution.
