Indonesian Government Partners With DigitalGlobe To Assess Taxes

By JJ McCoy | May 4, 2007

DigitalGlobe is providing imagery to the Indonesian Directorate of Property Tax and Ministry of Finance that will be used to identify taxable land within the country, DigitalGlobe announced May 2.

"The Indonesian government has a responsibility to fairly evaluate land value, something that can be tremendously difficult to accomplish in isolated, rural areas using traditional surveying methods,” Marc Tremblay, vice president and general manager of DigitalGlobe’s commercial business unit, said in a statement. "By using remote sensing data from DigitalGlobe’s satellite, the Indonesian government is able to get an accurate measurement of property boundaries and land characteristics, leading to a fair and equitable tax assessment.”

Details of the contract were not released.
