[Via Satellite 12-18-2015] Mexican multimedia company Televisa has contracted capacity on SES’s AMC 9 satellite to broadcast content to millions of households across Mexico. The multiyear agreement secures three C-band transponders for the premium channels Canal 2, Canal 5 and Canal 9. Televisa is also renewing a separate transponder to support a video contribution and bidirectional data networks in Mexico.

Latin America has grown in importance for SES in recent years. Over the last three years SES’s technical reach in Latin America has grown to 24 million households, while the number of TV channels broadcast over the operator’s satellites to this region has doubled. The company is launching a new satellite, SES 10, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 in the second half of next year. The spacecraft will have 55 transponders on board, of which 27 are incremental transponders at the 67 degrees west orbital slot. AMC 9 is located at 83 degrees west.
