[Via Satellite 02-27-2015] DigitalGlobe signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) to collaborate on applications of Earth observation (EO) technologies for economic, social, and scientific benefits, with an emphasis on developing countries. Together DigitalGlobe and UNOOSA plan to create an online platform that streamlines access to imagery catalogues, data and analytical services optimized for the United Nations (UN). DigitalGlobe will also provide advisory services on space-based imaging and analytics. The partnership extends to other UNOOSA-supported groups such as the United Nations Platform for Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER) and the United Nations Geographic Information Working Group (UNGIWG).

“Cooperation and collaboration in the area of geospatial information and analytics will improve how the United Nations, including its member states and its system of organizations, can address global economic, environmental, geopolitical, and societal issues,” said Simonetta Di Pippo, director of UNOOSA.
