[Via Satellite 08-11-2014] Japanese Public Broadcaster NHK plans to demonstrate its latest achievement with 8K Super Hi-Vision television: a complete end-to-end high frame system. The very high-resolution system runs at a frame rate of 120 frames per second (fps) — nearly double that of current 4K Ultra-HD technology —and has 16 times the resolution of HD, using 7680 x 4320 pixels. NHK’s 8K system also improves sound quality with 22.2 channel audio. The demonstration is planned for IBC 2014 in Amsterdam.

NHK reports that the 8K system is almost ready for practical implementation, and has proposed a satellite broadcasting test in 2016. The broadcaster intends to launch public services in Japan in 2020.

Demonstrative screenings at IBC2014 will show scenes from the FIFA World Cup, as well as recordings from the National Palace Museum in Taiwan. Previous demonstrations include a theater showing in 2006 and an international link in 2008.
