[Via Satellite 07-02-2014] Sagemcom has chosen Broadcom’s BCM7445 video decoder and BCM7252 System-on-a-Chip (SoCs) to broadcast select 2014 World Cup events live in Ultra High Definition (Ultra-HD). According to Broadcom, its Ultra-HD video decoders, using High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), reduce bandwidth usage by 50 percent. Using the BCM7445 decoder and BCM7252 SoC, Sagemcom can deliver display resolution speeds of 60 frames per second (fps) at 10-bit BT2020 color standard. Ultra HD provides four times the resolution of 1080p HD, and the World Cup has become a major proving ground for the technology.
