[Via Satellite 05-21-2014] Rockwell Collins has developed a new satellite reception technology to increase the reliability of the company’s Tailwind 550 Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) TV system for private jets and large businesses. The new technology is part of the DBS system’s antenna and will provide 25 percent more coverage for all of Rockwell Collins’ supported regions.

“With Tailwind 550, passengers have real-time access to hundreds of standard and HD channels, without the need or expense to stream select content to the aircraft,” said Greg Irmen, vice president and general manager of flight controls and information systems at Rockwell Collins.

Systems with the additional reception technology will be delivered starting in early 2015, and a drop-in replacement antenna will also be available for order.
