Elemental Technologies to Stream Live 4K Broadcast for Vienna State Opera

[Via Satellite 05-05-2014] The Vienna State Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, has selected Elemental Technologies to stream the world’s first live broadcast in 4K using High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) delivered via MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) over the Internet. The live production is set for 7:00 p.m. CET (1:00 p.m. EST) on Wednesday, May 7, and will be streamed for global viewing on Ultra High Definition (Ultra-HD) smart TVs, along with a 65-inch Samsung Ultra-HD TV at the opera house. The live production will feature Giuseppe Verdi’s Italian opera Nabucco, starring Plácido Domingo as the title role.

The Wiener Staatsoper Samsung smart TV app is fully integrated with Ultra-HD playout functionality and will allow viewers around the world to watch the broadcast at their corresponding prime time through Vienna State Opera’s time-shift feature. The app will be released ahead of time before the performance.
