[Via Satellite 04-28-2014] International telecom and media company Millicom began its first Direct-to-Home (DTH) TV service in Bolivia. The new service targets the 6.5 million out of 10.5 million people in Bolivia who live out of range of cable coverage. Millicom’s service, which comes from Tigo Bolivia, is promoted under the brand name “Tigo Star,” and supports a total of 67 channels. Five of the channels are free-to-air, another five are in HD and eight are categorized as premium service. The launch of Tigo Star coincides with that of Tigo Bolivia’s cable service, following the acquisition of fixed-line company Multivision in 2013.

Millicom recently reported its first quarter 2014 financial results, with revenue growth of 8.5 percent to $1.405 million. The company reported double-digit growth in Africa, with 12 percent revenue growth in local currency.
