[Via Satellite 01-08-2014] Spacecom, the operator of the Amos satellite fleet, has been selected to provide broadcast services on Amos 5 at 17 degrees east for the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN), Africa’s annual football championship competition. South Africa is hosting the 2014 competition, which will take place Jan. 11 through Feb. 14, 2014.

Spacecom’s Amos 5 has transmitted both the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games from London to Africa, the South African Super Rugby Games and most recently the Nedbank Golf Challenge, Africa’s top international golf tournament. The satellite provides HD transmission of sporting events on both ad hoc and occasional use bases.

Amos 5 was designed and built specifically for the African market with a pan-African C-band beam and three Ku-bands. The satellite covers the continent, including all of sub-Saharan Africa, and provides connectivity to Europe and the Middle East.
