[Via Satellite 12-05-13] ANATEL, the national telecommunication agency of Brazil, has certified Ateme’s Kyrion CM5000 for commercial transmissions. Any equipment used to broadcast an RF signal in Brazil requires prior certification by ANATEL. The agency has certified the Kyrion CM5000 encoder in configurations that include satellite modulation. Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) professionals may now use this contribution encoder with built-in DVB-S/S2 modulation in their mobile units.

The modulator of the CM5000 allows operators to reduce “roll-off factors.” This mode of satellite modulation, also known as “smaller guard intervals” allows up-linkers to maximize the effective bandwidth of satellite transponders. Additionally, its built-in confidence monitor removes the need for a separate monitor in the truck.

With next year’s World Cup in sight and the Summer Olympic Games two years later, the need for SNG services in Brazil has dramatically increased, and will likely attract overseas operators and vehicles, for which ANATEL certification will also be required.
