[Satellite TODAY 06-29-11] Canadian information solutions provider MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) has signed three contract amendments with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) totaling $10.5 million for the design phase of the Radarsat constellation mission, MDA announced June 28.

The company said the amendments will initiate the procurement of parts and equipment needed for Radarsat’s build phase and will require a lengthy period of time to complete. MDA added that the included tasks aim to add mission functionality to the program.
MDA signed initial Radarsat contract amendments with CSA in May worth $37.06 million. Those amendments involved developing the detailed design of the constellation and all of its subsystems. MDA has been working on this contract under an authorization to proceed since mid-March. The new amendments bring the total contract value to $137.4 million.
