U-blox, R&S Complete Galileo Simulation; Set to Test Glonass

By Jeffrey Hill | February 15, 2011

[Satellite TODAY 02-15-11] U-blox and its test and measurement equipment supplier Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) concluded a simulation of the European Galileo satellite positioning system, U-blox announced Feb. 14.
U-blox said the test, carried out with the R&S’ SMBV100A vector signal generator and GNSS simulation options, verified proof-of-concept and the compatibility of U-blox receiver technology with the Galileo transmission protocol.
The cooperation with R&S also will be extended to the Russian Glonass satellite system, which hopes to be fully operational with 24 satellites in 2012. "Our close cooperation with R&S has proven to be a valuable and strategic asset, allowing us to develop advanced satellite receiver technology well before the actual satellites are available," U-blox Vice President of Software Development Clemens Bürgi said in a statement.
