NOAA Contracts Summation Research to Provide GOES Satellite Hardware

[Satellite TODAY 07-15-10] The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has contracted Summation Research Inc. (SRI) to provide advanced multi-functional demodulators in support of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) weather satellite system, SRI announced July 14.
   The contract, worth more than $400,000 once the system is fully deployed, will see SRI provide the NOAA with SD-4220 demodulators to replace outdated satellite ground station equipment at the NOAA’s GOES Command and Data Acquisition (CDA) facilities in Wallops, Va. and Fairbanks, Alaska. The programmable SD-4220 architecture is capable of receiving imagery, sounding, or solar x-ray data collected by the GOES satellites. The demodulators will also help in the distribution of critical weather information to users of NOAA services.
   “Living and working on Florida’s East coast we have an acute awareness of the importance of timely and accurate weather and climate information. Deploying our multi-functional demodulators in this key application will help NOAA efficiently and reliably support the collection and delivery of potentially life-saving weather information,” SRI Vice President Tom Drago said in a statement.
