[Satellite TODAY 08-28-09] The DigitalGlobe WorldView-2 imagery satellite has arrived at Vandenberg Air Force Base in anticipation of its scheduled Oct. 6 launch, DigitalGlobe announced Aug. 27.
WorldView-2, built by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., completed environmental testing earlier this month.
The satellite is the third component of DigitalGlobe’s planned multispectral imagery constellation, which aims to collect data for the company’s Web-hosted ImageLibrary archive.
“With the addition of WorldView-2, DigitalGlobe will have increased capacity, which is expected to improve the speed with which we deliver our imagery products to our customers and provide more frequent refresh of our ImageLibrary to support a range of monitoring, analysis, and decision-making services,” DigitalGlobe Chairwoman and CEO Jill Smith said in a statement.
