Intelsat To Use Comtech’s DoubleTalk Technology

By Staff Writer | February 22, 2008

[Satellite Today – 2-22-08] Intelsat will use Comtech EF Data Corp.’s DoubleTalk carrier-in-carrier technology and compression in Intelsat’s service targeted to wireless operators, Comtech announced Feb. 21. The technology allows satellite users to achieve spectral efficiencies that cannot be achieved with traditional links, according to Comtech.
The Intelsat service, dubbed RevLinx, further reduces the amount of capacity required by leveraging optimization and compression technology from Memotec, a subsidiary of Comtech. Memotec’s CX-U Series combines 2G/3G mobile network access optimization and DCME voice compression features into a compact, carrier-grade unit, enabling operators to reduce network operating expenses by cutting transmission costs and extending the service capabilities for evolving networks.
"Intelsat has prioritized adopting technology, such as Comtech’s DoubleTalk carrier-in-carrier, that enhances the efficient use of our valuable capacity for our customers," Jay Yass, Intelsat’s vice president, network services, said in a statement.
