Boeing Launches WorldView-1 Imaging Satellite

      [09-18-07 – Satellite Today] DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-1 imagery satellite was lofted into orbit Sept. 18 by a Boeing Delta 2 rocket, Boeing announced.
      Lift-off occurred at 2:35 p.m. EDT, and the satellite was deployed 73 minutes later.

      WorldView-1, manufactured by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., will provide imagery of Earth with a ground resolution of a half-meter. The system is capable of collecting up to 750,000 square kilometres of imagery per day.

      Ball is scheduled to complete WorldView-2, which will have the same capability as WorldView-1, in late 2008.
