StarBand Unveils Faster Modem

By Staff Writer | August 4, 2003

StarBand, the struggling U.S. provider of two-way satellite broadband to residential and small office customers, has introduced a modem designed to provide peak download speeds of up to one megabit per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 100 kilobits per second (Kbps).

The initial limited rollout of the StarBand 480 Pro satellite modem to several hundred customers in the first quarter resulted in high customer satisfaction, the company said.

The StarBand 480 Pro satellite modem includes a four-port Ethernet router-enabling networking of multiple personal computers to provide flexibility for networked environments.
