PanAmSat Beefs Up Video Distribution Capabilities

By Staff Writer | August 14, 2002

PanAmSat has launched a video-on-demand (VOD) and a digital store & forward (DSF) service that aims to reduce the costs involved in distributing video content. The two new services upgrade video content to a digital format.

“Our large video providers are being asked by consumers for movies, news and other entertainment when they want it – not just when it is available. Our new VOD service allows them to do just that,” commented Tom Eaton, executive vice president of global sales and marketing for PanAmSat.

PanAmSat VOD solution will enable the transmission of video content from one source to many recipients in North America. Its DSF service enables the digital storage and delivery of content around the globe. It is targeting the needs of international video content providers such as film and television companies. It offers a satellite-based digital alternative and significantly reduces the need for traditional analogue tapes, the company said.
