MTV and UPC Polska are preparing to launch three new digital music channels in Poland next month via UPC Direct’s satellite platform.

The new channels to be aired on the Wizja TV platform in Poland on April 1 are MTV2, MTV Base and VH1 Classic. They will be broadcast alongside sister channels VH1 and MTV Polska. The latter was launched in July 2000.

The digital channels of MTV are 24-hour English language music channels. “At launch, MTV Base, MTV 2 and VH1 Classic will reach more than 380,000 homes on the Wizja TV platform, with the new channels expected to attract an even wider and more diverse audience,” said MTV.

“Poland is a very important market to us,” said Alex Ogilvie, managing director, MTV Northern Europe. MTV2 shows alternative music, MTV Base focuses on R&B, dance and hip- hop, while VH1 Classic is for music from the 60s and 70s.
