GET AND FUJITSU SIEMENS CO-OPERATE IN TV PORTAL ON ASTRA

By Staff Writer | December 13, 2000

German multimedia company Global Electronic Transfer (GET) and Fujitsu Siemens Computers have formed a long-term technical co-operation. The firm based in Oberhaching near Munich intends to bring 1 million units of the electronic manufacturer’s set-top-box Activy 300 into the consumer market until the end of next year.

The box will be provided with a tailored software and used as the reception device for GET’s interactive TV portal on Astra (19.2 degrees East), transponder 60 (10.877GHz V). GET said Activity 300 comprehends the functions of a digital set-top-box for free-to-air and pay-TV services, a satellite receiver, a digital VCR, CD, DVD and MP3 player and an Internet and email client in one box.

“We have decided to use the Activy 300 as the client for our interactive TV portal because it is no proprietary but an open solution which supports the MHP standard,” said GET’s chairman Jorg Jovy.
