ASIASAT BORROWS $250M

      Hong Kong-based AsiaSat (half-controlled by Astra) has negotiated a US$250 million (E297.97m) syndicated loan to part-finance the building of AsiaSat 4 and 5. AsiaSat 4 will be positioned at the orbital slot of 122 degrees East. It is a Hughes 601HP satellite, carrying 28 C-band and 20 Ku-band transponders with an operational life of 15 years. AsiaSat 4 is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2002. The company says planning for AsiaSat 5 is under way.
