ENERGIS ENTERS INTERACTIVE SECTOR

By Staff Writer | August 23, 2000

UK-based communications and Internet company Energis has taken its first step into the interactive digital TV market by launching a “unique” multi-channel package for corporate content providers.

To help it take its maiden voyage, Energis set up a joint venture with software developer Graham Technology to create “a fully integrated solution to companies looking to provide interactive digital TV services.”

Initially provided through the digital satellite platform, the technology will ultimately allow products and services to be offered across interactive TV, Internet, WAP and EPOC platforms, using the same seamless interface, said Energis.

It added that companies would be able to access a larger consumer market than is possible using existing platforms, due to a solution that allows applications across a wide range of distribution channels and by using the Energis network and hosting facilities.

Mike Grabiner, Energis’ chief executive, said, “By 2003, estimates suggest that over seven million households in the UK will have access to digital interactive TV. The joint venture broadens the channels to market for business customers.”

The e-fulfilment business Zendor.com will work with Energis to develop a portal to move into interactive TV from Zendor.com’s present use of catalogues.
