EIAST, Bigelow Aerospace Launch Human Spaceflight Program

[Satellite TODAY Insider 02-01-11] The Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST), the organization behind DubaiSat, has teamed up with Bigelow Aerospace to initiate a next-generation human spaceflight program in the Middle East, the organization announced Jan. 31.
The partners will establish the program in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, developing a microgravity research and development center with a potential focus on advanced biotechnology applications and a variety of other commercial space-related activities.
The EIAST deal is part of United Arab Emirates’ strategy to strengthen its space capabilities through its work on the DubaiSat program, with programs such as DubaiSat-1, to support business applications in the Middle East. EIAST Director General Ahmed Al Mansoori previously told Satellite TODAY Insider that other satellites were in the pipeline. “We are also hoping to launch DubaiSat-2 satellite in 2012. We are also thinking about DubaiSat-3 satellite. We might announce something on this at the beginning of 2011,” Al Mansoori said.
