NGA Taps DigitalGlobe for Crisis Event Service Imagery
[Satellite TODAY 06-02-10] DigitalGlobe has secured a one-year Crisis Event Service (CES) imagery agreement with the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), DigitalGlobe announced June 1.
CES, launched by DigitalGlobe in July 2009, will be used to provide the NGA pre- and post-event satellite imagery to aid in emergency planning, response and recovery. DigitalGlobe deployed the CES imagery program for use in the aftermath of January’s devastating earthquake in Haiti and during the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
“Recent events have demonstrated the potentially life-saving benefits of rapidly available, pre- and post-event satellite imagery and we are excited to continue to support the NGA by offering timely access to critical insight and information that aids in planning and relief efforts,” DigitalGlobe Senior Director of U.S. National Security Programs David Robinson said in a statement.
