VSAT 2012 Points To Trends in the Market

By Mark Holmes | September 12, 2012

Firstly, I would like to introduce our first dedicated e-daily for Comsys’ VSAT 2012 event here in London, which we are really excited about bringing to you. The event is always one of the highlights of the calendar and usually gives many unique insights into the VSAT market both from a satellite perspective, as well as an end users perspective, which is always highly valuable.
It is has been an interesting few days for Via Satellite as we have been covering IBC, which is given us some interesting points of discussion such as the potential of ultra-HD and OTT, to name but two. But, we now we now put the spotlight on the VSAT market, and look to see how this particular part of the satellite market is performing. Last year, Simon Bull, a senior analyst at Comsys said the VSAT market had had a tough year in 2010, saying “that if you stayed still in 2010 you were doing well”. Obviously, this year, we will be hoping for a slightly more upbeat forecast. Bull’s presentation last year set the scene and he talked about tough market dynamics as well as missed opportunities from VSAT players, particularly in the corporate segment. We will find out soon whether these lessons have been heeded.
Over the next two days, we will be providing dedicated coverage from the event from key players in the VSAT industry. The event will, no doubt, provide a fascinating range of talking points about the VSAT sector, and we look forward to bringing them to you for the first time in an e-daily format.
