Inmarsat has officially launched its IsatPhone Pro global handheld satellite phone, the mobile satellite company announced June 18.
The new service, initially revealed in April, represents Inmarsat’s debut in the global handheld market. The IsatPhone Pro’s rugged design includes a fully maneuverable antenna for easy hands-free use via Bluetooth, a GSM-style interface and a larger keypad for easy dialing in gloves. The company is offering the phone at a market price between $500 and $600.
The handset has an IP54 rating and is dust, splash and shock resistant. It is also capable of operating from -20 to 55 degrees Celsius.
“IsatPhone Pro will undoubtedly shake-up the global handheld market,” Helen Stalker, commercial director for global satellite phone services at Inmarsat, said in a statement.
